Saturday 21st August:

#NAP – STROZZI (1.30 Sandown) – After a couple of underwhelming efforts to begin his career, this colt managed to score by a head in a Chepstow maiden on his third start when stepped up to 7f for the first time. He improved on that run when finishing a close second on nursery debut (the form looks pretty good) and despite a 3lb rise in the weights I think he’ll continue to improve in handicaps and a mark of 80 should be one in which he can win off, hopefully in this contest with Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle. (3/1) – Bet365 – 1ptLost (-1)

#NB – BOONIE (4.10 York) – Kevin Ryan has three runners in this contest and it’s the mount of stable-jockey Kevin Stott who I’m backing to land this listed event. He won comfortably on debut at Beverley before being beaten a neck in a conditions race at Musselburghand since then he has ran some nice races in competitive events. The first came when third in the listed Windsor Castle at the royal meeting, beaten two-and-a-half-lengths by Chipotle before filling the same spot in a Group 3 at Goodwood at the end of last month where he led at the furlong pole before hanging right-handed. Connections have applied first-time cheekpieces which, if they have the desired effect, would give this two-year-old a cracking chance of gaining a second career win. (9/2) – William Hill – 1ptLost (-1)

Stake: 2pts

August P/L: -5pts

Overall P/L (Sept ’17-present): +575.31pts
