Friday 13th August:

#IWAC – CANONIZED (3.20 Newbury) – An each-way selection in this listed race for fillies, William Haggas’ filly has been in great form in her opening season, winning three times over this minimum 5f trip, all on ground with good in the description and she also was a fair second in listed company at York when missing the break and subsequently was left trailing in the rear before keeping up to her work well late on. I think she can be forgiven her third at the end of July at Goodwood in a Conditions race as the ground was soft that day, the return to a faster surface will suit her more and with five places on offer she could well outrun her double-figure odds and hopefully go close with Tom Marquand (1-1-3 on her) in the plate again. (12/1) – Betfair – 0.5pt ew4th (+1.7)

#NAP – SUPER CUB (3.55 Newbury) – This two-year-old has gone one better on each of his three starts so far in his career, finishing third on debut in a soft-ground novice at Salisbury before going down by a half-length at Brighton next time out and he eventually got his head in front when scoring with what looked like a bit up his sleeve in the hands of this useful claimer Gavin Ashton the last day in a maiden at Ripon. He makes his nursery handicap debut here off a tempting mark of 78 (5lb also taken off by his jockey) and looks the type who could excel for the switch to handicaps, the ground conditions will suit and if taking a further step forward then I’d be disappointed if this colt wasn’t involved in the finish. (4/1) – William Hill – 1ptLost (-1)

Stake: 2pts

August P/L: -2.5pts

Overall P/L (Sept ’17-present): +577.81pts
