Friday 9th July:
#NAP – LIGHT REFRAIN (2.40 York) – Won a listed race on return to action this campaign (6f, soft) and possibly put in a career best when beaten a length in fourth in a Group 2 next time out when finishing behind two horses now both rated 116. The last day she was upped to 7f in the Jersey at Ascot where she underperformed but I’m hoping that was just a blip and now dropped back to 6f, where her form figures read 1-2-1-4, she can get back on track in the colour of her majesty. She was beaten a neck on her sole run over C&D in the Rockingham last October which is a positive. (11/2) – Bet365 – 1pt – WON (+6.5)
#IWAC – MAJOR JUMBO (4.00 Ascot) – Once rated 109 this seven-year-old is now down to a mark of 95 after some underwhelming runs since finishing second in a listed race at Chester. He did however show signs that he might be up 5o winning again soon when third on the tapeta at Newcastle at the end of June. He’s twice ran at this course, both times finishing third in big-field handicaps off marks in the low 100s and if he’s able to repeat those efforts from 2018 then he is dangerously well-handicapped. Should handle the softer ground and is an each-way selection here. (10/1) – Sky Bet – 0.5pt ew (4 places) – Lost (-1)
