Wednesday 16th June:

#IWAC – ARTURO TOSCANINI (3.05 Ascot) – Needs to be forgiven a last of eight effort at Newmarket back in April on seasonal appearance but was much better the last day when finishing a lose second in a Group 3 at The Curragh over 1m2f on soft/heavy ground when staying-on well through the line so this step up to 1m6f could well bring about more improvement for this son of Galileo. Aiden O’Brien has a great record in this race having won five of the last eight runnings, and although this wouldn’t be his main hope it sometimes pays to follow the second or third fancied runner so I’m hoping it does so again here, each-way possibilities with five places on offer with some firms. (12/1) – Bet365 – 0.5pt ew (4 places)Lost (-1)

#IWAC – PARENT’S PRAYER (3.40 Ascot) – This filly has won three of her eight career starts so far with the most recent coming the last day at Epsom when able to dictate the pace of the race from the front before winning a shade cosily by two-lengths over the extended 1m on good-to-soft ground. There’s not much pace in here so there’s every chance Archie Watson’s filly could execute the same tactics again and if she is able to do so then I think she’s certainly of each-way value with Hollie Doyle a good jockey round this course. (10/1) – Betfred – 0.5pt ew (4 places)Lost (-1)

#NAP – DREAMLOPER (6.10 Ascot) – This four-year-old has been a consistent performer so far in his early career and has improved on almost every start he’s had. He bolted up in a Redcar novice last July by over seven-lengths and despite only third on handicap debut he was able to open his account in that sphere when winning over C&D off a mark of 85 at the beginning of September. He’s stepped up again so far this season, after a close fourth at Haydock off his revised mark of 91 he went down by a short-head (again over C&D) the last day when unable to wear down the re-opposing Lights On on soft ground, so the return to this faster surface will suit and I think he can reverse that form and continue his trainer’s current good form having had six winners from his last 21 runners (29% strike-rate) now with Oisin Murphy taking over the reins. (4/1) – Bet365 – 1ptLost (-1)
