Wednesday 12th May:

#IWAC – STRAIT OF HORMUZ (1.40 York) – Was giving plenty to do when tried over this new 1m4f when last seen back in October last year in a valuable handicap at Newmarket and was eventually beaten 11-lengths, finishing in midfield. The assessor has eased him only a pound but he’s still more than capable of a big run if showing his best form which was shown when winning on his penultimate start over 1m2f at Doncaster off 5lb lower. Jedd O’Keefe won this race back in 2017 and his gelding has won previously on soft ground, as well as good, so isn’t ground reliant. He’s an each-way play with five places on offer. (10/1) – William Hill – 0.5pt ew (5 places)Lost (-1)

#IWAC – WOBWOBWOB (3.40 York) – A couple of wins in his two-year-old campaign over both 6f/7f with the latter coming on soft ground at HQ off a 7lb lower mark, so any further rain wouldn’t be a problem to this gelding. He improved on his fifth on reappearance when finishing a good third, again at Newmarket, over a mile this time when emptying late on having tried to make all (beaten just under four-lengths) and the form of that race has taken a boost with the second winning a class 2 next time out comfortably. The drop back to 7f looks a good move and despite a pound rise in the ratings he’s still on a winnable mark in my opinion, it’s a typically tricky York handicap but I think he’s certainly got each-way claims with four places on offer if you shop around. (8/1) – Sky Bet – 0.5pt ew (4 places)WON (+6)
