Friday 7th May:
#NAP – DULAS (1.45 Chester) – Competitive handicap here but it’s the bottom-weight who catches my eye. He ran well to finish a strong-finishing second at Haydock on his first run since November in a good race and the handicapper has only raised him a pound for a half-length defeat. Last summer he went close over 6f at Newmarket, beaten a length-and-a-half in fifth off a mark of 83, so he still looks well-handicapped judged on that and his recent start competing here off 81, the yard have been amongst the winners in the past fortnight (6/21), so in the hope this four-year-old can come on for that return I think he holds solid claims with a nice draw in stall two providing this slower ground suits. (9/2) – William Hill – 1pt – 2nd (-1)
#NB – DIAMOND ROSE (3.05 Market Rasen) – Lightly-raced nine-year-old who has slipped back down to the same mark in which he won a C&D event back in the summer of 2019, which landed a double having won off 4lb lower prior to that. He returned from a short break to finish a close third at Wincanton back in March on soft ground and though he was beaten 21-lengths here a month ago that came in a 0-115 handicap and the form has been franked with the winner & fourth scoring since and the second filled the same spot subsequently. He’s now dropped into a 0-100 from a pound lower mark and Sam Twiston-Davies looks a good jockey booking, if able to reproduce his penultimate run then he must hold every chance off this winning mark. (13/2) – Betfair – 1pt – Lost (-1)
