Saturday 24th April:
#NB – BELARGUS (4.50 Sandown) – Won here on his penultimate start by nine-lengths off a mark of 121 over a trip just shy of 2m and was travelling well into the race when coming down over this C&D the last day. He’s off a mark of 130 now but this six-year old should have more to come and despite that previous win coming on heavy ground I think this quicker surface should be fine for him having previously gone close in a novice handicap chase on good. Niall Houlihan has been on board the last four outings and can again claim his 5lb and though it’s a tricky little handicap I think if he’s on song and puts in a clear round then he should be competitive. (5/1) – Bet365 – 1pt – WON (+4.25)
#NAP – PRODUCTION (5.40 Haydock) – His last win came off a 7lb higher mark back in the summer of 2019 and he’s now competing off a career low mark after a fair fifth the last day on the polytrack at Kempton over this 6f trip. He’s an interesting horse based on the distances he runs over, with that last win coming over 1m2f and he’s now been racing over 6f in recent starts, hos best effort coming when beaten just under a length in second, again at Kempton off a 2lb higher mark and I think this galloping course may suit him over this type of trip, he’s on a dangerous mark now and William Buick is a good booking (23% strike-rate when teaming up with this trainer). (3/1) – William Hill – 1pt – Lost (-1)
