Friday 12th March:
#NAP – GERICAULT ROQUE (1.55 Sandown) – Song Of The Hunter arrives here in good form and demands plenty of respect but it’s David Pipe’s five-year old who I fancy to make a winning handicap debut. His form in a couple of novice events this year read well. He beat Natural History by half-a-length on hurdling debut back in January and that horse bolted up by 15-lengths on his most recent start and is a warm order for the Imperial Cup tomorrow. The last day saw this gelding finish a held third when trying 2m4f for the first time but the two ahead of him were rated 129 & 128 and off an opening mark of 117 on these pieces of evidence could make him dangerously well-handicapped dropping back to the bare 2m. Fergus Gillard also claims a handy 3lb in this race for conditional jockeys and though my form has been off recently I do think he’s got to be going close, fingers crossed.
