Friday 29th January:
#NAP – LE GRAND FROMAGE (1.00 Doncaster) – This six-year old made a pleasing chase debut the last day at Newcastle over an inadequate 2m trip, he jumped well and after becoming outpaced and dropping to the rear of the field at the end of the far side he rallied very well up the long straight to be beaten three-and-a-half lengths. He’s still a maiden in all spheres but ran well over this trip at Ascot when third in a handicap hurdle back in October, so this step back up in trip will suit this son of Kayf Tara and with Richard Johnson booked I’d be expected him to be going close off this mark of 115 with improvement likely. (7/2) – Bet365 – 1pt – Lost (-1)
#IWAC – DO YA FEEL LUCKY (4.17 Doncaster) – Joined David Pipe’s yard from Ireland at the end of November after a close second in a competitive beginner’s chase at Kilarney (2m7f), beaten just under three-lengths by a 136-rated horse with higher rated horses than herself in behind also. She ran well over 2m4f on her stable debut (with beaten ten-lengths) when looking as if she’d appreciate the step back up in trip which she gets here and having been dropped 5lb for that I think she’s certainly capable of winning races like this off a mark of just 102, if she can improve on that fifth then I think she’s got each-way claims at least. (11/1) – Sky Bet – 0.5pt ew (5 places) – Lost (-1)
