Saturday 16th January:

#IWAC – DJANGO DJANGO (3.00 Warwick) – This is how first try over a trip this far but it could bring out further improvement and the application of first-time cheekpieces may also do similar. Not shown anywhere near his true form so far in three starts this season so a chance is taken on him rediscovering that but as a result has slipped down the ratings now only 2lb above the mark he won a handicap off at Newbury almost a year ago to the day when beating Notachance by almost five-lengths off level weights (has a 5lb-swing here). It’s interesting Richard Johnson is booked off 10-0, not very often he does a weight this low, it’ll be a patient ride again you’d expect so I’m hoping he gets the trip and picks them off one by one (not a confident selection but I’m happy to take a chance), each-way offering five places with some firms. (9/1) – William Hill – 0.5pt ewLost (-1)

#NAP – SIR RODNEYREDBLOOD (3.45 Lingfield) – This four-year old arrives here on the back of three solid efforts in defeat over the past month or so and is on an unchanged mark from the last two of those. He’s twice a winner over C&D (most recent in July off 2lb lower) along with a close third on penultimate start, the winner of which went on to score next time out. Possibly not suited by the fibresand the last day so only being beat three-lengths in second was a good effort (form was franked on Friday) and if in a similar mood then I’d like to think he’ll be going close again with George Bass negating 7lb with his claim. (9/2) – Betfair – 1ptLost (-1)

#NB – HUGO’S REFLECTION (3.50 Market Rasen) – Pulled-up the last day over a shorter trip and had previously weakened over the extended 3m at Southwell when third but back down to the extended 2m5f should suit. He’s twice a winner over this trip including once at this course and is only a pound higher than his highest winning perch. A good third at Fontwell off 4lb higher on reappearance in a race which has produced plenty of winners since and Daryl Jacob looks a strong booking (42% strike-rate in the past fortnight). If showing his best form then he’s certainly capable off this mark, has won on soft to, each-way offering four places with some firms. (17/2) – William Hill – 0.5pt ewLost (-1)
